“The Fusion was the weapon of choice at the Defi because, even in the gustiest of up and down conditions, the double surface made the ride so smooth. I felt like I was just gliding through the lulls with the same pressure in my harness whatever the wind was doing. It was so comfortable; the more I pulled in my harness, the faster I could go and I just needed to manage the handles in the tips of my fingers.
“In the race that I badly timed my start, I had to drop off the foil to stop myself crossing the line early. By the time I got going again after the wind shadow of the big pack of riders passed, I had almost 200 places to make up. Fighting my way back, riding through so many wind shadows, wouldn’t have been possible on a single surface wing I don’t think. I was able to just choose the fastest route to the buoys and not worry about whether I was passing riders to windward or leeward – the Fusion just maintained speed and smooth handling through every wind shadow.”
