What were you doing before you joined Ozone? Please share a bit of personal background info.
Looking back at the last ten years of my life, I wouldn’t have it any other way. I began kiting at the age of 22, just as I was finishing my formal engineering studies. It was a life-altering decision that inspired me to pursue kite instructing for a few years before eventually finding my way into the industry through an in-house role, which gave me my first experience of the “office” side of the sport.
I learned a lot in those early years, but I eventually felt drawn to freelancing. I spent five years working alongside many of the world’s best riders and a wide variety of brands while travelling the globe on a seasonal rotation. By the end of 2024, I felt the calling to join a brand again and found this position within Ozone Kites. It is a dream opportunity; I feel at home and honoured to be surrounded by a group of motivated, inspiring people who all share a passion for the sport we are promoting and the brand we are building.
When did you join Ozone, and can you tell us a bit about how the opportunity came about?
I joined in December 2024. I had reached the end of my freelancing career and, after years of nomadic living, I felt drawn to a more structured lifestyle and the chance to dig deep into a single brand’s vision.
Where are you based? Or where do you split your time?
Cape Town, South Africa.
Tell us about your role at Ozone, your responsibilities and who you work most closely with in the team?
I work most closely with Jim Gaunt, with a specific focus on content marketing. My responsibilities involve writing newsletters to keep our community up to date with the latest happenings, and I am actively involved in photoshoots, editing content, and managing our general media libraries.
Do you still manage to score much personal riding time?
Oh yes. I spend a lot of time riding—I am as addicted today as I was when I first started.
Outside of windsports, do you have any other passions?
Surfing, surf-foiling, and I also love overlanding and camping in the mountains whenever I get the chance.
Ozone make a large range of equipment for several wind sport passions now, from kitesurfing and snowkiting to wingfoiling and parawinging. Do you manage to do all of them, and do you have a favourite?
I do all of them except snowkiting—unfortunately, that’s not really possible in Africa! Otherwise, I am highly passionate about kiting and winging, and I’ve been dabbling in parawinging too. My favourite is still kiting because of the sheer variety of experiences it offers; the sensory overload and larger-than-life sensations it brings to my life are hard to beat.
If you were granted one wish to have any conditions in any location for a day, where would you go, what would the conditions be and what gear would you ride?
I would have to say 18–22 knots of side-shore wind at Lakey Peak, Sumbawa, with head-high waves for rail-to-rail carves and lip bashes. Every wave is unique, and I can easily get lost in an endless “shred-marathon” there.
How would you describe the general philosophy at Ozone and what makes it all work?
Our brand motto—”Inspired by Nature, Driven by the Elements”—isn’t just a tagline; it’s a lifestyle. When you’re inspired by nature, you aren’t just building a product; you’re trying to harmonise with the wind and the waves.
What truly makes it work, however, is the collective “froth” of the team. We are a company of lifelong riders with a deep, longstanding history in the sport. That shared energy is the real engine behind our R&D. Because we are all out there riding every single day, the feedback loop is instantaneous.
