Ozone Demo Tour – Interview with Santi Cisneros after Brazil

After an incredible summer running the Ozone Demo Tour across Europe and through northern Brazil, our demo tour leader, Santi Cisneros is now on his next big adventure: Australia. From dreamlike European landscapes to Brazil’s world-famous windy coasts, the tour has already given hundreds of riders the chance to experience Ozone’s latest gear.

We caught up with Santi just before he flew out to Australia at the end of September to hear about the journey so far, the highlights, and what’s coming next.

Q: You have now completed demo tour travels across Europe and through northern Brazil. How different were these experiences?

Santi: “So far this year, I’ve had the opportunity to run the demo tour in Europe and in northern Brazil. These are two completely different places, both on the map and in many other ways! Europe was incredible, full of dreamlike landscapes and huge cities, places I hadn’t seen before. Brazil was completely different in terms of climate, people, food, and spots. Many of the stops in Brazil were in remote or desolate locations — small fishing villages that, over the years, have become world-renowned kiting paradises. Every location has its own unique qualities, and that’s what I enjoy the most about doing this.”

Q: Do you have any idea how many demo days you’ve now run, since the start of the season in Europe, or how many people have tried gear?

Santi: “Uff, that’s a big number, haha! If I’m not mistaken, between Brazil and Europe, I’ve been to about 28 different locations with around 60 demo days. The number of participants always varied depending on the place and the conditions, but there was always a core group of people trying out everything and having an incredible time in all sorts of conditions. In places considered kiteboarding capitals, we had days with all our gear in the water. It was an amazing sight!”

Q: Which products have been the favourites for people who are on demos, both wing and kite gear?

Santi: “I always say that at Ozone, we have a kite for every person and every riding style. Of course, the most in-demand ones were the most popular at the moment: the Vortex, Mach1, Enduro, and Edge. But there’s always that rider who really enjoys the Alpha, the Reo, or even the Catalyst. The boards were also a huge hit. Those looking for a smooth ride with high performance loved the Code, while those who preferred more power and control went for the Torque.

On the wing side, we had a bit of everything too, with speed lovers going for the Fusion. But the one that stood out the most, for its relaxed feel and smoothness, I’d say, was the Flow.”

Q: Brazil is a kiting mecca with wind every day. Did that make it easier to run demos? What was your set-up like?

Santi: “Yes, 100%. In Europe, it was a bit stressful, following the forecast daily and deciding which spot to go to just a few days before, based on the conditions. In Brazil, that’s something you don’t have to worry about at all. Wherever you go, you find wind. It’s like a dream come true!”

Q: Is winging growing in Brazil – and which were the best spots you visited?

Santi: “Absolutely. Just like everywhere else in the world, winging, parawing, and the whole world of foiling is growing. Personally, I really enjoyed a place called Moitas, in Icaraizinho. The sea was super organized, with good waves and constant wind. It was a show!”

Q: Which was your personal favourite spot in Brazil, and why?

Santi: “My favorite spot in Brazil? That’s a tough one! I’d say Taiba. It’s a small but very beautiful town that has all the conditions you need to have fun with every discipline: waves in some areas, an organized sea in others, and of course, the incredible flat-water lagoon.”

Q: So now you’re heading to Australia. How are you getting the gear from Brazil to Australia?

Santi: “Now it’s time to fly to Australia, and I have to admit I’m super excited about it! The equipment is a big deal though — traveling with so much gear everywhere is not an easy task. Lots of board bags, suitcases, and a lot of weight. I become the worst nightmare for airlines and Ubers, haha!”

Q: What is the plan for Australia – how long are you there and who is helping you?

Santi: “The plan for Australia looks great. Ozone Australia distributor, Mike Walker, is running the tour with me. We’re going to cover a lot of kilometres along the east coast. Our calendar is looking something like this:

Q: Do you know much about where you’re going?

Santi: “To be honest, I had to do a bit of research on Australia and its spots because I really had no idea where I was going! Everywhere looks like paradise for wind sports, so I’m going to let myself be surprised by what Australia has in store for me.”

Q: Have you been before, and what are you most looking forward to about the trip to Australia?

Santi: “I’ve never even been close to Australia, to tell the truth. From what I’ve been reading and from talking to people, epic conditions for kiting and winging await me. Dream spots with wind and flat water, some incredible waves, and lots of kangaroos!”

Q: For anyone who is thinking of coming to a demo in Australia, what do they need to know, bring, and where can they find all the info?

Santi: “First, make sure to follow Ozone on social media, as we’ll be posting all the information, dates, and times for the demos there. And second, just come with your wetsuit or bathing suit and a desire to get out on the water! We’ll have everything you need to have an incredible day trying out gear that I’m sure will blow your mind.”

Q: When do you leave for Australia, and what’s next after that?

Santi: “I’m in Australia from 1st October! So, here I goooooo!”
