Landboarding In Ireland

The guys from SnowKite Odenwald recently went on a landboarding adventure to one of the most beautiful kitespots in the plains of Brandon Bay, Ireland.

The first week was spent enjoying the unusually mild midsummer temperatures in Brandon Bay. The location was in the small town of Stradbally not far from Castlegregory. Brandon Bay offers the possibility to ride in different wind directions. At Maharees Beach you can ride well with Westerlies. The further you move westward on the beach, the optimal flow changes. At the beach of Stradbally there is the possibility to ride all the way down the Fortfarm (Goulane) to the beach. Here you have good northflow and thus onshore. West here means Sideshore. The parking is better at the next driveway (Kilcummin) to the beach. Where you can ride well on both the beach and park. We had mainly north wind while we were there. Alternatively, there is the Traleebay (Banna Beach) to ride on. Optimal flow from the West also offers the Inch Beach in the Dinglebay. You can easily reach this from Castlegregory via the Conorpass.

In the second week we changed our quarters. Moving and setting up in the Bay of Ballinskelligs. At West, the wind comes totally swirling over the mountains. The best wind here is SW. Unfortunately Ballinskelligs even at the Blue Flagbeach is overcrowded.

Conclusion:

Optimal kite spots for kite surfing and kite sandboarding in this area are Dingle Bay with Inch Beach, Brandon Bay and Tralee Bay.
All beaches have compacted sand at low tide and are ideal for buggy and kite sandboarding.
Short drive (40km) to Kerry Airport (Ryanair).
Short flight time to Frankfurt Hahn.
Scenic, the area is one of the most beautiful in Ireland (Ring of Kerry).
