  • Ride Up Team Snowkiting In Cervières, Hautes Alps, France

Simone Borgi and Wareck Arnaud exploring the Hautes Alps
    Juni 6, 2021 / Snowkites

    Simone Borgi, 7 May 2021.

Some snow fell the night before, the weather forecasted a moderate wind from NW and clear skies in the  afternoon. It was still cloudy with gleams of clear skies when I met Wareck  around 12 o'clock at the famous spring spot Le fond Cervieres. , We walked for 5 minutes, we unpacked our 11sqm subzero and in a few minutes we were under the Pic Lombard. The spot was amazing, with a pleasant spring snow and perfect wind, we followed to the whole spot together with our French friends. Later Wareck and I moved right to the Grand Vallon  where we found the perfect conditions for snowkiting; blue sky, fresh snow and 18-20 knots of wind… the spot was smooth as a pool table and Wareck enjoyed spending a lot of time filming me with his drone. Conditions were fantastic and just for the two of us, towards sunset, our friend Syril joined us for what we can call a great day of snowkiting!

My Italian friend Simone Borgi called me to to share a great snowkiting session. Few days earlier we had a great session together riding up the top of Pic Lombard culminating at 2975 meters and then strolling in the valleys on the left side Grand Gleiza 3923 m. This time, the weather was a bit more cloudy at the start but our desire to take advantage of the snow it was at its maximum.

We headed back to Cervières, Hautes Alpes, France.

We knew the spot well so we decided to go and ride in the right-hand valley on the "Grands Vallons" side even if the wind was a bit  W/NW oriented . We usually prefer the NW to climb the corridors and do beautiful runs without the kite on the descent  which is our RideUp spirit.
Simone Borgi and I had the right timing, the magical thinning is coming and the spring snow was just perfect with a small layer of fresh snow. Thanks to that, I had the opportunity to take beautiful images with the drone. I can say this spot is just great for snowboarding but I went skiing so I love to take pictures.

Simone was riding his 11sqm Subzero V1 and he was flying at lightning speed. He probably did around 60 km during the day and what I love the most is his brilliant smile every time he comes to see me.

I also enjoyed myself with the drone, in the background of the images we can see the Queyras massifs and it's beautiful. In my bag, in addition to the video equipment i carried the 11 Subzero and I always have a 4 m2 Explore V2 as a backup. We often use a kite size below when we are skiing versus snowboarding. The wind was quite strong on the ridges and it was getting late around 6.30 p.m. having the curfew in France at 7 p.m. so it was time to think about ending our session.

This trip was a  great opportunity to test this famous 4 sqm which I only heard good things. In the end, I loved it because I can ride it in on all ridges with safety and until the last rays of the sun. I now know that this sail holds in strong winds but that also shines in lighter winds with a good background of power in its low range because I have never been worried to go up from the valleys.

A  day of snowkiting as we like them, shared with my friend Simone Borgi… Can't ask for anything else

Thank you Ozone Thank you life
