  • Axel Mazella And Julia Damasiewicz Claim Gold At The 2020 Formula Kite Individual Europeans

After four days of intense racing, Axel and Julia proved the R1-V4 in the racecourse
    September 2, 2020 / Racing

We are very proud of our team riders Axel Mazella and Julia Damasiewicz winning the European Championships in Men and Women category during a hard five days of competition in the baltic sea of Puck/Poland.

The all new R1 V4 was on the race course for the first time amongst all the top international riders and it was the first time that all the new 2024 Olympic Registered kites went head to head. All of us at Ozone are very stoked to be part of the team that won both Gold Medals at this event. It was a clean sweep for Axel on his R1 V4 and a tight fight for Julia who was battling with Ellie Aldridge who came second also on the R1.

The final day of the 2020 Formula Kite Individual European Championships saw a new format, introduced in the 2019 ANOC World Beach Games in Qatar with the goal to ensure that the competitor "first over the line" in the final race is the Gold medallist while avoiding the unfairness of a "winner takes all" race after a full week of racing. Axel, confident with the new format confirmed his dominance in the racecourse on "Super Sunday" with what looked like an easy win, leaving behind Ozone riders Nico Parlier and Toni Vodisek with their 4th and 5th respective places. In women's division, Julia from Poland had it a bit more complicated having to go all the way in the last day to seal the deal.

In rather light wind conditions with loads of sea weed swimming around decreasing the performance of the foils under water it was very challenging for all riders but with the accessible performance of the R1 V4, the riders could keep their speed up and stay ahead.
